We’re excited to bring Hyde Street Studios’ rich history to the TONEX ecosystem. This collection includes many of our go-to amps used on countless records and some eclectic gems that’ll add spice to your sound.
Hyde Street Amp Locker is a curated collection of 14 amplifiers used on countless classic albums. Veteran studio engineer Jaimeson Durr captured these amps at the legendary Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco exclusively for TONEX users, bringing the historic and unparalleled tones of the iconic “San Francisco sound” directly to your gear locker.
All Tone Models were captured using Hyde Street Studios’ prized recording equipment, including a Neve 8038 console (installed by Rupert Neve himself), 1084 Preamp/EQ, CAPI VP28 mic preamps, API 550a EQ and an array of classic studio mics. The results are 20 Tone Models encapsulating the legendary studios’ sound. Hyde Street Amp locker is an eclectic mix of tones that offers players and engineers a rich palette to use live and in the studio.
A Hub of Musical Activity
Hyde Street Studios, located at 245 Hyde Street in San Francisco, has been a cornerstone of the city’s music scene since its inception in 1969 as Wally Heider Recording. It played a pivotal role in the “San Francisco sound” that conquered the world throughout the late ‘60s, ‘70s and beyond, producing legendary recordings like “Cosmo’s Factory” (Creedence Clearwater Revival), “American Beauty” (Grateful Dead), “Abraxas” (Santana), “Surfing with the Alien” (Joe Satriani), “Insomniac” (Green Day), “Headhunters” (Herbie Hancock), and “Tower Of Power” (Tower Of Power) to name a few.
In 1980, it transitioned to Hyde Street Studios under Michael Ward’s and partners’ leadership, becoming a hub for the emerging punk and hip-hop scenes with artists like Dead Kennedys, Green Day, Cake and Tupac Shakur. Throughout its illustrious history, Hyde Street Studios has remained a sought-after destination for major recording artists, preserving its historic charm and acoustic excellence.
